Diffuse or climbing plant, which can reach 3 m in height. The inflorescences are organized in clusters of 14-25 flowers, generally longer than their peduncle. The bracts are half as long as the fruitful pedicel; the latter are erect or suberect, thickened at the apex.
The sepals are 2.5-5 by 1-2 mm and are subentery. The corolla, (11) 12-16 mm long, is white, with the tips of the inner petals dark purple, but often turning completely pink. The fruit is a globular monosperm nut with a diameter of 2.5-3 mm, very fair, and, at maturity, with large, slightly marked tubers and emarginate apiculate apex.
