One crucial question for many marijuana users is how long the high will last. Usually, they can count on a few hours, however, the feeling of high can last many times longer. So how to determine it, at least approximately?
What should be taken into account?
The high lasts from 2 hours to an impossibly long 10 hours, but it depends on many factors:
- Metabolism
- Food
- The presence of other substances, such as alcohol
- Weight and fat percentage
- Tolerance
- Marijuana strain
- THC level
- Consumption method
How quickly do the effects appear, and how long do they last?
In general, it's worth remembering that Sativa takes longer to hit the head, while Indica effects are almost instantaneous. Hybrid varieties can act in different ways. However, the speed of manifestation of the high mostly depends on the method of consumption.
Smoking or vaping is the most instant way. The drug enters your bloodstream through your lungs when you inhale. Therefore, you can start feeling high after 2-10 minutes. It lasts on average from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the strain.
When eating cannabis products, the process takes longer. It takes time for the digestive system to metabolize cannabis. So it usually takes 30 minutes to an hour for the effects to show up. The most severe edibles affect the body for up to 24 hours. And on average, the high lasts more than 6 hours.
How to cut back on your high?
There is no way to completely get rid of the high, but you can reduce the effectiveness. For example:
Take a nap. Sleep can help you relax if you experience unpleasant side effects such as paranoia, anxiety, headache, buzzing. Sleep also gives the body a chance to process marijuana so that you wake up more alert and refreshed. Keep in mind, however, that eating Sativa, which tends to be energizing, will prevent you from falling asleep.
Try CBD. Cannabidiol can have a sedative effect even though THC is active. That will help ease the high.
There is some evidence that certain foods can also soothe highs. For example, inhaling or chewing peppers that contain caryophyllene enhances the relaxing properties of THC. Pine nuts act similarly, triggering pinene. Be very careful, however, especially if you have a nut allergy.
What about prolonging the high?
Everything is much simpler here. The best advice is to choose the edibles since they have the longest highs and all kinds. If not, you can take another dose of marijuana or opt for a high THC strain, but be aware of your tolerance.
It is believed that cannabis should be taken with alcohol to enhance its effectiveness. However, this is not entirely true. Even a small dose of alcohol can increase the effects of THC, but it can lead to side effects that are more potent than you may have experienced before. So don't even try.
