How to Care for the Plant
Water
Make sure to water thoroughly and only once the top parts of the soil are completely dry. It is essential to give your friend only a little sip because your orange tree will not enjoy excess moisture.
Pruning
Cut branches and leaves that make the tree unbalanced. Also, remove dead or severely damaged sections of your tree.
Fertilizer
Fertilize your orange tree just over once every month with a citrus-specific formula. Use water-soluble fertilizer and dilute it to about half.
Sunlight
These greenies love sunlight. However, there is a bit of a trick here. Keeping them outside means you should keep them in direct sun, but they prefer to stay away from direct sunlight if it comes through windows. So, if you are keeping your green friend inside, maintain them in diffused light or partial shade.
Soil
Potting soil with peat works great. Also, you can fill the bottom of the pot with rocks to make sure excess water does not pool around the root system.
Propagation
Cut a piece of softwood from a branch with no blooms or fruits. Place the cutting in soil and keep watered (though not too watered) in a warm place. You should see roots in no time.
Temperature
70°F (21°C) to 90°F (32°C) is the temperature range your Calamansi tree will love the most. It can resist colder and hotter temperatures, but this will come at the risk of losing its fruits.
Container
It is important to have enough space for your leafy friend. So make sure to get a container where the root system has at least 1 inch (2.45 cm) of space before it can touch the sides. Make sure to upgrade as your plant gets bigger to keep those roots from getting too cramped. Also, use a heavy container to keep this tree anchored, and make sure the pot has drainage holes to keep it from being too wet.
Fun fact
This greenie is the most popular orange tree to grow indoors in the world.
