The silver tree is evergreen . Usually it reaches 5―7 meters in height (and sometimes up to 16 meters). It is erect and well-proportioned, with a thick, straight trunk and gray bark. Soft, silky leaves are shiny, silvery, lanceolate, 8-15 cm long and 2 cm wide. They are distinguished by a silvery sheen created by thick velvety hairs. The flowers , pollinated by the wind, form dense globular inflorescences 4-5 cm in diameter and exude a pleasant aroma. Like all leucadendrons, this tree is dioecious . The fruit is a heavy woody cone with many seeds.; each seed is a small nut with a silky helicopter-like parachute that allows it to be carried by the wind.
