The tree is 10-12 (18) m in height. The crown is round. Young shoots are naked, dark red-brown. The bark is reddish-brown, cracking. Leaves are simple, broad-heart-shaped in outline, 8-13 cm long and somewhat wider, with a weakly cordate or cut base, irregularly lobed. The lobes are 5 in number, with the three apical segments dissected almost to the base, and the lower lobes are much smaller, incised up to one third of their length.
