What is the plant

Salicornia europaea, known as common glasswort or just glasswort, is a halophytic annual dicot flowering plant in the family Amaranthaceae. Glasswort is a succulent herb also known as ‘Pickle weed’ or ‘Marsh samphire’.As a succulent, it has high water content, which accounts for its slightly translucent look and gives it the descriptive name “glasswort.” To some people, it is known as “chicken toe".

How to Care for the Plant

Water
We recommend watering your Salicornia Europaea with a saline solution of 1tsp sea salt mixed in a pint of water for the soil to mimic this plant's natural soil conditions better. Although you should avoid overwatering it, always keep your succulent in moist soil.
Sunlight
Enother thing that Common Glasswort has in common with other succulents is the fact that it prefers sunny spots where it gets full sun.
Soil
Glasswort prefers a rich organic soil with ample nitrogen and regular watering. This species is little, if at all, cultivated and its exact requirements are not clearly understood. It is not known if the plant will require periodic inundation by salty water to grow well.

Temperature
Give them medium (50 degrees F/10 degrees C) to warm temperatures during the growing season—spring and summer. The plants go semi-dormant in winter.

Succulents and cacti thrive in well draining, porous soils. Gravel or expanded shale can be added to the bottom of the container to help increase drainage. Never let the container sit in a saucer of water. If your container does not have a drainage hole, you will need to water less.
