How to Care for the Plant
Water
If you live in a climate that is very dry, then it's recommended to water them as often as you can – particularly in areas of Australia suffering with heat waves during summer. However, the plant is very hardy and tolerant to drought once established, meaning you'll rarely need to intervene.
Pruning
Prune the edges of the plant's leaves as far down and up as you can. Angle the shears to produce the shape for the plant that you desire. Target the cuts where the ends of the leaves are dead. If the plant is healthy to the ends, make your cuts about two to five feet from the plant's base.
Fertilizer
Apply fertiliser with high nitrogen, such as a lawn food, to hasten growth, and cut back every 3-4 years to refresh. Special comments: tiger grass is an excellent alternative to bamboo and doesn't drop leaves in dry weather. It is a good choice for tight areas around a swimming pool, but not in dry, windy areas.
Sunlight
Full sun to part shade.
Soil
Well drained but humus rich soils are ideal, though it will withstand many soil types as long as they are not waterlogged or too dry. N.B. if kept in pots or large tubs, ensure they get enough water in hotter months.
Temperature
The annual rainfall ranges from 3000 mm to 3200 mm with a minimum annual temperature of 21.4 C and a maximum of 33.4 C.
