Tifgreen is a very dense, low-growing, fine-textured turf which produces lateral runners requiring concrete borders for containment. Compared to other hybrid Bermudas (such as Santa Ana and Tifway), Tifgreen has a finer texture and a slower growth rate.
For the first 20 days, water as needed to keep the topsoil moist to a 3-inch depth. After 20 days, water three or more times a week during warm weather. In cooler weather, water once or twice a week. Sandy soil requires more frequent watering than clay soil.
Fertilize in six to ten week intervals from March to September. No fertilization is required during dormancy. Use an all-purpose fertilizer, and follow label directions.
Optimum daytime temperature for bermudagrass is between 95° and 100°F. Soil temperature, as influenced by air temperature, is also important to the growth and development of bermudagrass turf. Soil temperatures above 65°F are required for significant growth of rhizomes, roots and stolons.
