What is the plant

L. hirta is a medium-sized perennial aromatic shrub, 2-5 m tall, with quadrangular stems, sometimes having prickles. The posture may be sub-erect, scrambling, or occasionally clambering (ascending into shrubs or low trees, clinging to points of contact by means of prickles, branches, and leaves).

How to Care for the Plant

Water
Water well and keep the plant evenly moist, but never soggy, for the first few weeks.
Pruning
Prune back the entire plant in spring as new growth begins if you're growing lantana as a perennial. Cut the lantana down to within 6 to 12 inches of the ground to encourage new growth and to remove the old, woody stems.
Fertilizer
Fertilize perennial lantana once a year in spring after pruning. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer, such as a 10-10-10 blend, at the rate advised on the package. Sprinkle the fertilizer on the soil, six inches from the base of the plant, then water thoroughly so the nutrients dissolve into the soil.
