How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water buttercup plants after their leaves emerge whenever needed to prevent their soil from drying out. The plants need a total of about 1 inch of water weekly throughout the blooming period in spring, but you might not need to supply water at all if a sufficient amount of rain falls.
Fertilizer
Apply a complete fertilizer, or spread compost around the plants but not directly against their stems. Water the area thoroughly to release the nutrients into the soil, making them available to the buttercups' tubers. National Gardening Association recommends mulching with bark, coco hulls or straw to retain moisture.
Temperature
Ranunculus buttercup plants require temperatures of no more than 60 F. (16 C.) during the day and 45 to 50 F.
Container
Ranunculus or Persian buttercup plants grow well in a container but needs it needs optimal protection from frost, and strong light.
Additional
All Ranunculus (buttercup) species are poisonous when eaten fresh, but their acrid taste and the blistering of the mouth caused by their poison means they are usually left uneaten.
