The Silver Satin is native to Southeast Asia and has the reputation of being one of the easiest houseplants to keep alive. It is known for its heart-shaped leaves, splashed with spots of iridescent gray, and fast-growing trailing vines.
Water every 1-2 weeks, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
I like to fertilize all year except during the winter. For most of my houseplants, I use 1/4″ teaspoon per gallon of water every time I water. It works well for all tropical foliage houseplants and I also use it for my orchids.
The Scindapsus pictus thrives in potting soil that drains well, bright filtered sunlight, medium to high humidity
Scindapsus pictus ‘Argyraeus’ doesn’t require much pruning. The slow-growing trailing plant takes few years to reach its mature height of 3 ft. (1 m). But pruning is necessary to remove leggy stems that have sparse foliage. You can trim back long leafy vines to control the plant’s height or length.
The ideal temperature for this plant is 60-75ºF/16-24ºC. Temperatures above and beyond this could cause the plants growth to slow down.
This plant can be toxic if ingested. Best practice is always to keep houseplants out of reach of small children and pets.
