Hedera - Ivy is an evergreen climbing or ground-creeping woody plant. When creeping, it rarely exceed 20 cm height, but when climbing on suitable surfaces, using specialised hairs that enable it to cling, it can climb to at least 30m above the ground. The leaves of ivy are shiny, dark green (pale green when young) with 3 - 5 lobes.Mature plants produce yellow-green flower-clusters, followed by black berries. All parts of the plant are toxic, and contact with the sap may irritate skin, or cause an allergic reaction. There are many cultivars. 'Big Shot' has leathery mottled leaves with hardly any lobes, that darken to green as the foliage matures.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Ivies prefer to be kept slightly on the dry side, so let the soil dry out some (dry to the touch on top) before you water your ivy plant again. Also, make sure that your plant has excellent drainage, as ivy does not like to be in standing water or overly wet soil.
Pruning
Ivy as a house plant is very agreeable to cutting. Due to its great growth, the green plant can be cut at will. Thereby you control the long vines or the vegetation on the growth support and keep your house plant at the size you like.
Fertilizer
To ensure the ivy develops splendidly, it is recommended to fertilize it from time to time. Since the soil, other than the soil outdoors, stops nourishing the plant after a while, fertilizing is recommended. Once again it becomes clear how low the standards of ivy actually are.
Sunlight
Ivy is quite adaptable to various garden situations, but it prefers fertile, humusy, moist but well-drained soil. Variegated ivies like light, but need protection from strong sun. Plant deeply to encourage quick establishment. Indoors, provide bright indirect to low light.

Temperature
Ivy grows well at light intensities of 1500 to 2500 foot candles and a temperature range of 65 to 85°F. When temperatures rise above 90°F root and grow poorly.
