It is a perennial, with a typical growth height of 50–120 cm. Like most other members of the carrot family, it produces large umbels of white flowers and has dissected leaves. Angelica keiskei closely resembles Angelica japonica, but can be distinguished by its blooming period, which lasts from May to October, whereas A. japonica's blooming period lasts only between May and July. Another indicator is the characteristic color of its sap.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
The plants require regular watering, as they are accustomed to humidity. The soil should always be at least a little moist, but too much water causes the roots to rot.
Fertilizer
In general, fresh compost should be fed to the plants every month or two. Cattle horn shavings or dung are ideal, but commercial fertilizers can be used sparingly.
Sunlight
Ashitaba can also grow in semi-shade or no shade at all, and ideally they should be facing south or southwest.
Soil
Ashitaba has few soil requirements, but it can handle sandy, loamy and heavy clay soils. It also accepts both basic and acidic soils, though it prefers the moist soils provided by its original coastal home.
Temperature
They enjoy warm, maritime weather and cool winters. However, in colder regions, they can be grown as annuals or houseplants.
