Everything about the dumb cane, or dieffenbachia, is dramatic. Native to the tropics of Central and South America, it has huge variegated leaves. Even the way it grows is showy, new leaves curling up from the central stem before they unfurl. The diefenbacchia’s common name, dumb cane, comes from the fact that the liquid that drips from its leaves can cause a temporary loss of speech if ingested. For that reason this plant is not recommended for homes with small children. This is a grown up plant for grown up homes. It’s used to growing in humid conditions in dappled forests, so it loves lots of moisture in the air and a lot of bright, indirect light. It will also appreciate a feed with liquid fertiliser once per month in spring and summer. With the right conditions, it will grow quickly to become a really impressive houseplant.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Overwatering is the biggest cause of killing your plants. some plants love a lot of water and others need to be in dry soil to thrive. the dieffenbachia is right in between. it has thin roots, so it can't tolerate wet soil for too long, but it also doesn't store a lot of moisture by itself.
Pruning
Trim off any dead leaves and stems.
Fertilizer
Use slow-release fertilizer. Avoid using too much fertilizer.
Sunlight
Needs 12-18 hours of indirect sunlight.
Soil
The ideal blend of soil for plant growth is called loam. Often referred to as topsoil or black dirt by landscape companies, loam is a mixture of sand, clay, and silt.
Temperature
Dieffenbachia prefers diffused sunlight or partial shade, but will tolerate full shade, which is why it is well-suited as a houseplant. It thrives in temperatures between 60 and 75°F. Your dieffenbachia should be watered regularly, with soil being allowed to dry between waterings.
Container
Choose a pot with drainage holes, which also ensures potting soil doesn't stay too wet after watering your houseplants. The excess can freely escape out the bottom of the container, allowing oxygen to make its way to plant roots.
Additional
Dieffenbachia plants are known by several common names, such as "dumb cane" and "mother-in-law's tongue," which describe their toxicity when this plant is ingested. ...
