How to Care for the Plant
Water
It is important to keep the soil your ti is planted in continuously moist. Reduce watering during the winter and water your plant whenever the soil surface starts to feel dry.
Pruning
You can chop the Cordyline back to any point you wish and new shoots will form just below the cut. I angled it slightly to let water run off and used a saw, it is incredibly easy to cut through. You could cut right down at the base and it will reshoot, almost always with multiple growing points.
Fertilizer
These plants can be fed in the spring with slow-release pellets. You can feed the plant weekly during the growing season with a liquid 20-20-20 fertilizer at half-strength. Do not fertilize during the winter.
Soil
Prefers moist well drained soils.
Temperature
Tolerates mild drought when established in mild coastal settings; water container plants when soil surface becomes dry. Likely root hardy to 15°F.
Container
Compliment the foliage with bright flowering perennials in the landscape and container gardens, or plant a single specimen in a decorative container.
Additional
The ti plant contains saponins, which can cause vomiting in cats and dogs -- sometimes bloody -- excessive saliva, depression and loss of appetite. Description. Cordyline Electric Pink generates multiple shoots to form a cluster or clump of brightly coloured hot pink and purple striped leaves.
