A native throughout Africa, Dracaena (also know as 'Corn Plant') is a common houseplant and often seen in offices and airports due to its ease of care. A member of the Agavaceae family, it's a slow growing plant which eventually will reach 4' feet tall. The Dracaena deremensis 'Dorado' is a beautiful cultivar with long, dark green leaves with a yellow border. It is a great choice for a low to moderate lit area but will also do well in high lighting. In lower light conditions, this plant will also need less water. In brighter lighting, it can use more water, but in general it is better to keep this plant on the drier side. A well-drained soil containing a good amount of perlite or lava rock should be used. If it sheds a few bottom leaves over the course of the year, this is normal. If it sheds a few leaves within a few months or so, this is usually a sign of overwatering.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Allow the soil of your Dracaena to dry out slightly between watering, then water thoroughly until water comes out of the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. Discard any excess water that has collected in the saucer–your Dracaena Dorado does not like to sit in water. Too many yellow leaves mean the plant is staying too wet, and brown leaves indicate that it’s too dry.
Fertilizer
Feed your Dracaena Dorado every month in the spring and summer with an all-purpose liquid fertilizer, diluted to half the recommended strength.
Sunlight
Your Dracaena Dorado will do well in low to bright indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can burn and bleach the leaves.
Soil
An organically rich, loose soil is ideal for corn plants. The soil must have good drainage, as the roots are prone to rotting in soggy soil. A quality commercial potting mix is generally fine for container plants.
Temperature
Your Dracaena Dorado will thrive in average room temperatures, between 60-80 degrees.
Additional
Moderately toxic to pets, typically causing mild mouth irritation, stomach irritation, and possible vomiting.
