The African tulip tree needs regularly and a lot of water. Especially in summer, the earth should never dry out. The African Tulip Tree is very sensitive to drought. Its leaves turn brown at the edges or even fall off completely. Since this happens with a time delay, the brown leaves are often not associated with dryness.

The African tulip tree does not require a cut, at least not if it has enough room for development, and this free growth is desired accordingly. In the first years of life, the tree hardly branches, then the cutting can stimulate the branching. Otherwise, if the tree is to remain small, it must be cut gently to tame it.

To help establish your new African Tulip Tree, fertilize sparingly ten inches away from the base, tri-annually with a slow time released product. Unfertilized they will tend to grow at a slower pace. Note: The heavy salts in cheaper fertilizers will damage the roots and possibly kill the plant. Its best to use a brand you know and trust.
