S. longifolia is an evergreen perennial typically forming a single rosette of linear, lime-encrusted, silver-grey leaves and one large, pyramidal panicle of numerous open cup-shaped, white flowers in summer. This is a ligulatae (one of the 5 Saxifrage categories) saxifrage with a single rosette of linear, lime-encrusted silver leaves, 2 1/2 inches to 4 1/2 inches long. After 3 or 4 years, it produces a large pannicle of up to 80 white, five petaled flowers, 1/2 inch across. These are excellent plants for the rock garden.
