Sanchezia (Golden Vein Plant) is native to Peru and Ecuador, growing under the canopy of a tropical rainforest. It’s a perennial shrub noted for large green leaves with yellow veins. The plant also produces short-lived yellow tubular flowers but is mainly kept for the distinctive veined leaves that can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) long.
How to Care for the Plant

Water

This plant likes humidity, so keep the soil consistently moist (but not soggy!) during the growth period. Reduce watering in winter: let the soil dry out a bit before watering again.

Pruning

It’s a fast-growing plant that appreciates light pruning. Pinch the growing tips to maintain bushy, dense, and compact looks. Remove dead leaves and stems as well.

Fertilizer

Apply balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during the growth period. Do not fertilize in winter.

Sunlight

Medium indirect light is perfect for your plant. North, east, or south-facing windows will work well. Do not place the plant under direct sunlight – it will damage the leaves. Avoid deep shade as well.

Soil

Sanchezia Nobilis requires breathable and well-draining soil rich in organic substances. Add perlite for better drainage.

Propagation

Sanchezia can be propagated from stem cuttings in spring. First, cut a 4-inch (10cm) healthy stem. Then, dip it in water and a rooting hormone. Plant it in well-moistened soil and place it in a warm, humid place with a temperature around 64℉ (18℃). You can cover it in polyethylene to increase humidity and warmth. Maintain the soil moist but not soggy. Your plant should root in 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the environmental conditions.

Temperature

Room temperature in the range of 15 - 27℃ (59 - 80℉) fits your plant well. Avoid rapid temperature drops and cold drafts.

Container

There are no specific pot requirements except for good drainage. Repot your plant only when it outgrows the container, about once every two years.

Fun fact

The plant sometimes produces small fruits with 6 to 8 seeds, but you’re unlikely to see that indoors.
