Himalayan Prayer Beads – The Rudraksha tree is revered for the highly ornamental stone found inside the tangy blue berry. The medium sized tree matures to almost 50 feet tall and will begin to produce fruit around year 3 or 4 from small highly fringed petal, bell-like white flowers that bloom in the early summer and slowly develop into fall ripening berries. Really easy to care for, it is tolerant of sun or shade as long as it Is provided with a regular supply of water. Once established, Rudraksha is fairly drought tolerant. How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water the plants well. If you are planting Rudraksha in open yards, you can create a little slope to stop the water-logging in the area. Water at least two times in a day in summers and once in others. You do not need to water your rudraksha plant in the rainy season and once they’re established.
Pruning
It is advisable to prune your Rudraksha plant when it comes to the height of 8-12 feet. As it will encourage the growth of new branches and help the plant in growing wider rather than taller. Besides, the greater the number of branches, the higher the fruit production of the tree!
Fertilizer
To help establish your new Blue Marble Rudraksha Tree, fertilize sparingly ten inches away from the base, tri-annually with a slow time released product. Unfertilized they will tend to grow at a slower pace. Note: The heavy salts in cheaper fertilizers will damage the roots and possibly kill the plant. Its best to use a brand you know and trust.
Sunlight
This tree requires 80-100% sunlight. Depending on your location full sun is often best.
Soil
Blue Marble Rudraksha Trees enjoy a well drained, general potting mix easily found at your local box store. Remember try to stay away from arid or wet, mucky soils.
Temperature
In the places where the temperature is higher than 35°C, it is best to keep them under shade.
Container
All tropical tree varieties grow well in containers, indoors or on the patio. Smaller varieties grow best in 12″ to 16″ diameter pots while larger varieties need enough room for growth, generally a 16″ to 30″ diameter, 14 ” deep container will suffice. Remember the looser the roots, the taller and healthier your tree will be. When the tree becomes root bound its growth will slow, at that point it is time for a larger pot.
