Smooth hawksbeard can be both an annual or biennial weed and with its long toothed leaves and bright yellow flowers, it is similar in appearance to the dandelion. However this weed is generally confined to neglected lawns and grassy areas, rather than on managed turf. It forms as a basal rosette during spring and early summer and spreads via seed. It has a deep fleshy taproot and can often be found in coastal sites.
