Slender vervain Care
Verbena rigida

Verbena rigida, or slender vervain, is a low-growing perennial species that produces an abundance of punchy purple flowers from summer and into autumn. Its lax growing habit makes Verbena rigida fantastic for planting in great swathes and softening the edges of borders. It will also self-seed, and makes a great addition to sunny gravel gardens and wildlife gardens. Growing to 60 centimetres (24 in), it has a spreading habit, with stalkless toothed leaves and clusters of bright purple or magenta, scented flowers, held on branched stalks, in summer. Numerous cultivars have been selected for garden use.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Keep plants evenly moist until established, when they can tolerate some dry spells. Verbena is somewhat drought tolerant, and it certainly does not do well in boggy conditions, but you must not underwater it either. Soggy plants will succumb to botrytis blight, but drought-stressed plants will attract spider mites. Water verbena as you might your lawn, with an inch of rain or irrigation each week.
Fertilizer
Verbenas are not heavy feeders, but they do appreciate a monthly application of a balanced, slow-release flower fertilizer to help them keep up the flower show, which can last from spring until frost.
Sunlight
Choose a place in full sun. The plant wants at least six hours of sunlight a day.
Soil
The plant prefers a moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil.
Temperature
These plants can be grown as perennial in the areas with the lowest winter temperatures between 0°F and 10°F or -17.8°C and -12.2°C. In colder regions, it can be grown as annual.
