Brazilian Tree Fern Care
Blechnum brasiliense

The erect rhizome of Neoblechnum brasiliense forms a thin stipe-stubbed trunk up to 30 centimetres (12 in) in height. The new foliage is a striking deep red color. As the fronds mature it turns to a glossy green. On some selections, the new fronds emerge a pinkish-red. The fern is native to the warm and humid subtropical forests of South America. Neoblechnum brasiliense is cultivated as an ornamental plant.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water actively growing ferns plentifully, as often as necessary to keep the mixture thoroughly moist, but never allow the pot to stand in water. If the temperature falls below 12°C (54°F) water moderately, allowing the top 1cm of the mixture to dry out between waterings.
Fertilizer
One or two applications of half-strength liquid fertilizer during the active growth period will suffice.
Sunlight
Choose a position in filtered, indirect light or deep shade.
Soil
Grow Blechnum in moist, humus-rich, acid soil. Mulching is recommended to keep the roots cool and moist.
Temperature
As it will not tolerate temperatures below 15°C (59°F) it must be grown under glass all year in temperate regions.
Container
Choose a container with enough drainage holes.
