What is the plant

The Golden Trumpet plant is an exotic tropical shrub that has been natively distributed from Brazil. It is a perfect decoration for an outdoor garden but can be cultivated in containers indoors as well. The plant is mostly loved for spectacular blooming in summer.

As a liana or a shrub, the Golden Trumpet plant can grow up to 10-20 feet (300-600 cm) tall and 3-6 feet (90-180 cm) wide. Very fast growing in its appropriate conditions, this plant can gain up to 20 feet (600 cm) in one season.

Its flowers with spectacular and fragrant blossoms attract Hummingbirds when grown in nature. The flower gives small fruit that contains seeds needed for further propagation.
The Golden Trumpet plant’s juice or milky sap is toxic for humans and pets but the plant is still used in medicine as a laxative.

How to Care for the Plant

Water
The Golden Trumpet plant likes water. Still, water it not more often than you see the top of the soil becomes dry. Watch out for rot. Humidity up to 50% would be a huge plus.
Pruning
Prune every spring by cutting off the stems to one-two nodes on each to gain more active growth.
Fertilizer
Feed every two weeks while watering the plant from spring to autumn with high-phosphorus liquid fertilizer ½ mixed with water.

Being a sun lover, the Golden Trumpet Plant requires a lot of direct sunlight and would feel itself just right near the southern windows of the room. It can stand half-shadow but try to give this plant at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Peat, compost, and sand taken and mixed in equal parts would make a perfect soil for the Golden Trumpet plant.
Propagation
