Can African Violets irritate skin?

I recently got a job in the greenhouse of a home and garden store, and yesterday I was tasked with pruning the AVs. I’m prone to touching my face, be it to push my hair back or adjust my earrings, but anyways I woke up this morning with an itchy rash on my face.. could it be the African Violets?

Yes. They can cause mild skin irritation from the “sap”. Since you were pruning and touching your face that could be it. Hopefully washing out your hair and face will take care of it
