i cant figure out if this is being overwatered or not

My boyfriend is a grounds keeper and had to pull up a pumpkin plant but he wanted to keep it so he dug up the roots and put it in a pot and added some water. We came back a few hours after potting it and it went from being perfectly fine to wilted like this. I think he’s been overwatering it but I’m not an expert.

**Condition Name**: Wilting **Symptoms**: Leaves and stems are drooping and appear dry and lifeless. **Cause**: Potential causes include lack of water, root damage, pests, diseases such as verticillium wilt, or extreme temperatures. **Treatment/Solution**: - Ensure the plant is receiving enough water, especially during hot weather. - Check for root damage or root-bound conditions. - Inspect for pests or signs of disease. - Provide shade if the plant is in an excessively hot location. Additional watering and appropriate care might revive the plant if the condition is due to a lack of water or heat stress.

I hope he had luck.

Looks like transplant shock and maybe overwatering πŸ€”
