Perennial herbaceous plant 10-30 cm tall, generally fragile and tender. Geophyte. Thin rhizome almost vertical or oblique, branched, creeping, whitish. From its nodes come the buds of numerous fleshy, but thin and straight roots. Stems few, often solitary, thin, erect, branched, leafy only at the top. Their base is wrapped in several wide membranous sheaths. They are usually glabrous, occasionally sparsely pubescent at the base. Leaves of two types: basal and lower stem on petioles 5-10 cm long, twice or thrice trifoliate with trilobate or trifoliate inverted ovate leaves, glabrous or slightly pubescent on the underside, with whitish membranous stipules 2.5-4 mm long, up to 3 mm; upper stem leaves sessile or on petioles 1-2 cm long, similar to the lower in shape, but less complex and smaller in size, with two short stipules.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Isopyrum thalictroides needs 0.8 cups of water every 9 days when it doesn't get direct sunlight and is potted in a 5.0" pot. Use our water calculator to personalize watering recommendations to your environment or download Greg for more advanced recommendations for all of your plants.
Fertilizer
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth. By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway. To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Isopyrum thalictroides after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.
Sunlight
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth. Select your city to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Isopyrum thalictroides in your home
