How to Care for the Plant

Water

Grow your Cirsium in moist, well-drained soil of loam, chalk and sand in an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Water Cirsium generously after planting and apply a generous layer of mulch to retain moisture levels in the soil. Water regularly in the first weeks. Try to avoid watering on sunny afternoons to minimize the amount of moisture lost to evaporation.

Pruning

Cut back Cirsium during the autumn when it starts to get cooler, to prevent self-seeding.

Fertilizer

During the spring, it is recommended to feed your plant with a general fertiliser which should encourage optimum health and growth.

Sunlight

Full sun, partial shade.

Soil

A soil composed of peat moss, loam, or sand, or any soil mixture with good drainage can be used. The soil should not be overly fertile.

Temperature

Temperatures between 65 (18 °C) to 75 F (23 °C) and nighttime temperatures between 50 t(10°C) to 60 F (15 °C).

Container

A container that is about one-third as tall as the plant (measured from the soil line to the highest leaf) often works best.
