How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water the plant every 2 to 3 weeks during the summer, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water only when the top inch of soil is dry in the winter. It is essential to avoid overwatering, which can cause root rot.
Pruning
Good news! The Fynbos Aloe doesn't require much pruning. It's a low-maintenance plant that likes to do its own thing. But if you do need to trim it, make sure you use a pair of sterilized pruners to avoid any spread of diseases.
Fertilizer
Aloe succotrina does not require fertilization, but you can boost growth by applying a balanced fertilizer in the spring and summer. Too much nitrogen in fertilizers can cause the plant to burn.
Sunlight
This plant likes bright, indirect sunlight. If you're keeping it indoors, place it near a sunny window where it can soak up some rays. If it's outside, make sure it gets a few hours of morning sun, but avoid harsh, direct sunlight that can damage its leaves.
Soil
This Aloe grows best in well-drained soil. It can grow in various soil types but prefers sandy, loamy, or rocky soils. If your soil isn't draining well, add a few handfuls of grit or pumice to improve aeration.
Propagation
You can easily grow it from stem cuttings. Just snip off a stem and let it dry for a few days until it's calloused. Then plant it in a pot with well-draining soil, and you'll have a new baby plant in no time.
Temperature
This tough plant can handle temperatures between 50-85°F (10-29°C), but it's happiest in a temperature range of 60-75°F (16-24°C). So, try to keep it in that sweet spot for optimal growth.
Container
Using the proper container size is essential when caring for this plant at home because it has a shallow root system and prefers to be slightly rootbound; choose a pot slightly larger than the plant's current size.
Fun fact
This succulent is 99.5% water, but the 5% solid portion contains the most active nutrients.
