Stalking and Pruning the mortgage lifter plants (Solanum lycopersicum) can quicken the initial harvest by a couple of weeks. It also improves fruit quality and makes the harvesting process much easier. However, the stalking and pruning may cause the fruits likely to be affected by sunscald, blossom end rot, and other common plant diseases.
Mortgage Lifter tomato plants require 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm.) of rain per week. Water when weekly rainfall is not sufficient. For the richest flavor, pick tomatoes when they are fully ripe.
Choose a fertilizer that has a balanced ratio of the three major elements, such as 10-10-10, or where the middle number (phosphorus) is larger than the first number (nitrogen), such as 2-3-1. Tomatoes are heavy feeders and usually do need fertilizer unless your soil is very rich.
An ideal soil would be made up of 45% minerals (sand, clay, silt), 5 % organic (plant and animal) material, 25% air and 25% water. The mineral portion would be loam (20 – 30% clay, 30 – 50% silt and 30 – 50% sand).
Use ceramic pots that are porous which means your plants are less likely to experience root rot from overwatering.
