Limnobium laevigatum is a floating aquatic plant, and is a member of the family Hydrocharitaceae.Common names include West Indian spongeplant, South American spongeplant and Amazon or smooth frogbit. This plant was introduced to North American waterways through use in aquariums and aquascapes.
The amazon frogbit remains popular with plant aquarists due to its ornamental nature and you will find it commonly used in both aquariums as well as ponds. When the plant is still young it has a characteristic of growing flat leaves that float on the surface of the water.
The fact that the plant is floating plant there will be no need for you to continually add COâ‚‚ to the tank water. You will however need to add fertilizer to the water on a regular basis especially when you perform the weekly water changes.
Philodendrons grow best in soil that is consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of the soil is dry, keeping in mind that soil in unglazed clay or ceramic containers tends to dry out faster than soil in plastic or glazed containers.
Provide good air circulation, with temperatures between 65 (18 °C) to 75 F (23 °C) and nighttime temperatures between 50 t(10°C) to 60 F (15 °C).
