Perilla frutescens var. crispa

How to Care for the Plant
 - Water - The plant should never dry out, and grows well even in standing water -- often growing in wet pond or stream margins.
 - Pruning - Shiso can grow up to 36 inches tall, but trim it regularly so you'll have a shorter, bushier plant that doesn't go to seed as quickly.
 - Fertilizer - Soil should be rich, with plenty of nitrogen to fuel leafy growth. Fertilize every two weeks with 1 teaspoon of 5-1-1 fish emulsion fertilizer for every gallon of water every two weeks during the growing season.
 - Sunlight - Full sun, partial shade.
 - Soil - Grow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in a sheltered, sunny site. Protect in winter in cold areas.
 - Temperature - Temperatures between 65 (18 °C) to 75 F (23 °C) and nighttime temperatures between 50 t(10°C) to 60 F (15 °C).
 - Container - For smaller pepper varieties, like habanero or ghost peppers, your pots should be at least 3 gallons. For larger varieties like bell peppers and poblanos, aim for a pot with 5 gallons or more. Some pepper varieties can make use of 10 or even 15 gallons of soil medium.
 - Additional - Perilla is very poisonous to cattle and other ruminants, as well as horses. All plant parts are toxic, especially the flowering structures.
