Phyteuma orbiculare, common name round-headed rampion or Pride of Sussex, is a herbaceous perennial plant of the genus Phyteuma belonging to the family Campanulaceae. Best of all is our county flower, the round-headed rampion or âPride of Sussexâ, which grows almost exclusively on the chalk grassland of the South Downs. Itâs a little early in the year for it to be flowering just yet but come July it will produce beautiful deep-blue flower heads.
An ideal soil would be made up of 45% minerals (sand, clay, silt), 5 % organic (plant and animal) material, 25% air and 25% water. The mineral portion would be loam (20 â 30% clay, 30 â 50% silt and 30 â 50% sand).
Use ceramic pots that are porous which means your plants are less likely to experience root rot from overwatering.
