What is the plant

Neoregelias are a type of epiphytic Bromeliad that grow all over Central and South America. They are commonly seen growing on trees, rock outcroppings, building roofs, and fence posts. Neoregelias appreciate regular waterings and medium to high humidity. However, they do appreciate drying out slightly between waterings, and they prefer not to have constant water on the leaves. Additionally, when being grown in a terrarium, it is a good idea to regularly flush out the leaves with clean water.

Water the aechmea plant thoroughly. Wait until the soil is fully dry before watering the plant again. Water should never soak the soil of the aechmea, and the soil should not be wet for long periods of time, as this can result in root rot.

Aechmea, like all other Bromeliaceae plants, requires soil that is sufficiently rich and very well-drained to grow well. Special Bromeliaceae soil mix is the best solution but you can also opt for flower plant soil mix and layer the bottom with a thick drainage medium.

Most full sized bromeliads will not require a planter pot larger than 6 inches. Using a larger plant container than needed can lead to over-watering issues.
