Luffa acutangula is commercially grown for its unripe fruits as a vegetable. Mature fruits are used as natural cleaning sponges. Its fruit slightly resembles a cucumber or zucchini with ridges. It ranges from central and eastern Asia to southeastern Asia. It is also grown as a houseplant in places with colder climates.
Do not overwater to the plant or do not allow the soil to dry out. Make sure your Ridge Gourd must receive at least 1“-1 1/2” of water a week. Once the soil has warmed, make sure to retain soil dampness and an even growing temperature around the plant.
Better yield and quality of vegetable can be expected by applying organic matter or farmyard manure (FMY).
Since ridge gourd is a summer squash, it requires warm temperatures to grow, and grows best in air temperatures between 60 and 75 degrees F. Flowers drop in high temperatures, but fruit will continue to develop, even up to 100 degrees F. )
