Sorbaria sorbifolia, the false spiraea,is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosaceae. The common name is also spelled false spirea.
Sorbaria sorbifolia, or False Spirea, is a deciduous, erect, multi-stemmed shrub that is best grown in average, medium moisture, organically rich, well-drained soil. It flowers best when sited in full sun and spreads by suckers to form colonies.
All parts of the plant are poisonous and people who have mistaken the leaves for those of comfrey have died. One half of a gram of dried seed is deadly.
