Trichocereus varieties are often sold as Echinopsis. This is a large group of cactus hybrids, well known for their large, spectacular flowers. They usually bloom from early summer and the flowering can continue for up to three months. They grow well in large pots or in the ground on hot arid regions. They can survive hot sun but are prone to scorching thus they are better suited to light shade.
Trichocereus Huascha Cristata has typical cacti water needs – you need to only water it when its soil is dry. This cactus does not require much water. Moreover, it can suffer from overwatering and develop root rot. In winter, the Trichocereus Huascha Cristata cactus will be dormant and thus will require little water.
Fertilization isn’t necessary if you’ve just repotted your cactus – fresh soil will have sufficient nutrients for growth. But if the cactus has been repotted a good while ago, then you may fertilize it once every 4-8 weeks in spring and summer with a cacti fertilizer diluted to half strength.
