Arrowhead Care
Syngonium podophyllum

The Arrowhead plant originates from tropical rainforests (Central and South America). The leaves have an arrow-shaped form, hence the name. Also, they can be described as spade-like. The other known names are American evergreen, nephthytis, arrowhead philodendron, etc.
The color palette is various: from dark green to very light and lime hues. There are even pink ones! In natural habitats and outdoors, it can produce flowers similar to Peace lily. This plant is a natural climber so that it can grow very tall. However, owners prefer to prune it for bushier foliage.
Toxic for cats and dogs can cause mild stomach and mouth irritation. We also recommend using gloves while pitching to avoid skin irritation.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Water the plant when the top layer of soil becomes dry. The arrowhead should not be kept too wet. Reduce watering during the winter period.
Pruning
Cut approximately 4-inch stem tip with a leaf or two, put into a rooting hormone, and plant into the slightly wet soil mix. Water it regularly. Once the new growth appears, the plant is considered an adult and should be treated as the parent-plant:)
Fertilizer
During spring, summer and fall, use liquid fertilizer for indoor plants. There is no need for it during winter.
Sunlight
The Arrowhead plant hates the direct sun as it can bleach leaves. Indirect bright light will suffice; the dark-leaved plants can thrive in partial shade.
Soil
Any soil-based potting mix will be good.
Propagation
If you don't want the stems growing too long, you can pinch them according to your preferred length. Pruning in the summer months will make the plant look bushier.
Temperature
60—75 ºF (16—24 ºC) is a perfect temperature range for the Arrowhead. A comfortable temperature for you is comfortable for it as well.
Container
Clay or terracotta pot will do just fine. Also, the container should be a few inches wider than the plant's root. Besides, it needs good drainage to prevent the plant from getting too much moisture.
Fun fact
There is one more popular name for this plant — goosefoot. Some people probably see more similarities with goose feet rather than arrows or spades. And the longer you look at the leaves, especially young ones, the clearer you can see that.
