Gaultheria Mucronata Care

Watering regularly in case of prolonged dry spell is called for, especially potted Pernettya. In fall and winter, natural rainfall should be enough to cover the plant's needs.

Pernettya plants grow slowly. It isn’t really necessary to prune them. Pruning to adjust the silhouette can be performed in spring.

They do best in full or part sun in peaty, acidic soil, so mix peat moss or organic compost into the soil before planting. Feed with a fertilizer for rhododendrons in late February and early June.

Gaultheria mucronata has no toxic effects reported. Evergreen shrub, 2-5 ft (0.6-1.5 m) tall, compact, spreading by underground runners. Leaves alternate, ovate-lanceolate, 2 cm long, sharp-pointed, glossy dark green, may turn bronzy in winter. Flowers small, bell-shaped, white to pink, appear in May-June.
