What is the plant

Blue Java bananas can grow to a height of 4.5 to 6 meters (15–20 ft). They are cold-tolerant and, like tall bananas of the ABB Group, are wind-resistant because of their strong pseudostems and root systems. The leaves are silvery green in color.[1][2] The fruit bunches are small, bearing seven to nine hands. The fruit are 18 to 23 cm (7–9 in) in length and exhibit a characteristic silvery blue color when unripe. The fruit turn a pale yellow when ripe, with white creamy flesh. They bloom around 15 to 24 months after planting and can be harvested after 115 to 150 days.

How to Care for the Plant

  • Water

    Water

Ice cream banana trees require waterings about once a day. Make sure the root systems stay wet by giving it a deep watering every time you water the fruit tree. Standing water will kill the plant by rotting the rhizome, so make sure the soil is wet but not soaking.

  • Fertilizer

To maintain the proper soil conditions, fertilize once a month during warm weather. The best fertilizer grade to use is 3-1-6, which is 3% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 6% potassium

  • Sunlight

  • Soil

    Soil

The soil should be fertile and well-drained with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5, which is toward the acidic side of the pH scale. Banana trees do not tolerate salty soil well, so if you live in a coastal area, you may have to dig up the ground and replace it with new soil.
