A monopodial epiphyte, it can grow between 6 to 15cm tall. The leaves are linear, thick and fleshy and are arranged alternately along the stem. The leaves measure 8 to 12cm long and 1.5 to 2cm wide. The flowers are arranged on erect racemes and measure about 1.2cm long. The flower sepals, petals and lip is yellow to orange-red in colour. The prominent part of the flowers is the long spur which measures about 0.8cm long. The flower lip is tri-lobed, with small, erect and triangular side lobes.

How to Care for the Plant

Water

Hanging plants should be watered or misted daily. To correctly water a hanging Ascocentrum, give it a good soaking, then let it dry for two or three minutes and water it again. The roots should turn green or silvery as the plant absorbs water.

Miniatum does best at temperatures between 60 f (15 c) and 86 f (30 c). growth will be slowed or stopped at temperatures below 50 f (10 c) and above 94 f (34 c). with a modicum of effort, Ascocentrum miniatum can add seasonal color to any col- lection of orchids.

Description. Plant blooms from Winter to Spring with many 1.2 to 1.5 cm wide flowers, and can grow up to 30 cm tall. The plant is very similar to Ascocentrum garayi but differs by having a much narrower petals, a recurved lip, and more transparent veiny flowers. Chromosome count of Asctm.
