How to Care for the Plant
Water
The leaves of a Shamrock plant fold up at night and re-open when light returns. Keep the soil barely moist but never soggy and allow the top 2” of soil to dry out before watering. It's best to water a shamrock plant from the bottom so the thin fragile stems of the plant don't get water logged and the soil stays loose.
Pruning
doesnt need to be pruned
Fertilizer
Shamrocks only need to be fed when they are actively growing. During the Winter and Spring use a liquid or water-soluble fertilizer monthly. Cut back to every other month once your plant goes dormant.
Sunlight
Shamrock plants like bright, indirect light, so place it near a south or west-facing window.
Soil
Soil Type: Loamy, sandy, well-drained Soil pH: Acidic
Temperature
Shamrock Plants like cool temperatures and do best when the temperature is 60-70 degrees during the day and 55-65 degrees at night.
Container
For container planting, find an area in your home with bright direct light and fill your container about three-quarters full with a well-drained potting mix.
Additional
However, when ingested in large enough quantities in small animals, it can result in poisoning in dogs, cats, and even humans. The species of plant we refer to as shamrocks are generally Trifolium repens. The three leaves on a shamrock represent faith, hope and love. In Ireland, it is considered extremely lucky if you find one with four leaves due to their rarity. The fourth leaf represents luck.
