Deciduous tree up to 18 m high with a tent-shaped crown and a trunk 50-60 cm in diameter, covered with gray, fine-scaled bark , reaching a thickness of 5-7 cm. Shoots are felt, green; biennial branches are reddish-brown, then gray. Buds are tomentose, about 5-6 cm long, 1.2 cm wide. Leaves are leathery, obovate, 20-50 (up to 90) cm long, 11-19 (up to 30) cm wide, obtuse at the apex, with a heart-shaped base, from above bright green, glabrous, silvery-gray underneath, slightly pubescent along the veins. Petioles 4-10 cm long. The flowers are creamy white, cupped, fragrant, 25-30 cm in diameter; perianth of 6-9 oval, at the base of purple lobes, of which the outer ones are 12-15 cm long, the inner ones are convex, 15-18 cm long, 7-10 cm wide. The fruit is rounded ovate, pink, pubescent, combined leaflet 6-8 cm long. Flowering in May - June, after the appearance of the leaves. Fruiting in September - October.
