A dioecious plant 10-12, up to 18 m high. The crown is irregularly pyramidal, formed by outstretched branches . The bark is gray. The buds are ovoid, with dense, pointed scales. Leaves with a descending base, dense, prickly, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 3-4 mm wide, lanceolate, sharp and strongly prickly, concave above, with 2 white stomatal stripes and a green midrib, below with a strongly pronounced longitudinal keel. Male spikelets at the base with long-lasting renal scales. The cones are large, about 2.5 cm in diameter, almost spherical, on the surface with clearly visible edges of accrete scales, dark blue, covered with a bloom, with thick flesh and a large strong core consisting of accrete seeds.
