Consistently moist soil is essential for Dracaenas. Water it regularly once the top two inches (5cm) of the soil dry up, and empty the pot saucer at all times. When the plant enters its dormancy period in fall, you may need to water it less often. Another tip is to use non-fluoridated water since this plant is particularly sensitive to water chemicals.

Pruning is not required unless you want to control the shape and size of your plant. In this case, it is best to prune a Dracaena plant in spring and summer while it is actively growing. Dead or damaged leaves should be removed once they appear.

A water-soluble plant fertilizer apples on a monthly basis will provide your Dracaena plant with all the necessary nutrients. Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant goes dormant.

Medium to bright indirect light will make a Dracaena plant thrive.

A peat-based well-draining potting medium will do well for a Dracaena. To replenish the soil, replace the top 2-3 inches (5-7cm) of the soil mix every year.

Propagation by cutting is by far the most effective way to propagate Dracaenas. The best part is that any healthy section of the stem is capable of producing a new plant.

The lowest temperature for Dracaenas is 50˚F (10˚C). It will thrive at 70-80˚F (21-27˚C). It is also recommended to mist these plants since they are accustomed to medium to high humidity.

A large pot with drainage holes and a pot saucer is the best option for a Dracaena. When the roots grow out of the drainage holes, repot your plant into a larger pot.
