It forms a symbiotic relationshipwith the bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti , which is capable of nitrogen fixation.It is an annual herb, procumbent to ascending, branching from the base. Tender stems 8-40 cm tall. Leaves with 4.5-6 x 4.2-5.5 mm leaflets, rounded to obovate. The inflorescences in racemes with 1 (2) flowers; with peduncle as long or shorter than the petiole of the adjoining leaf. Corolla 5.2-7.8 mm, yellow. Discoid fruit, flattened, very thin, spiral, with 5-7 turns. Seeds 4 mm, reniform. Has a number of chromosomes 2n = 16
