How to Care for the Plant
Water
Parthenocissus is a fast-growing plant, it needs frequent irrigation. Water it abundantly, but do not let the liquid stagnate in the root system. Make sure that the pot's substrate is always slightly wet. From about mid-autumn, you may reduce watering.
Pruning
You can prune Parthenocissus stricta in the spring. To do this, shorten the old lashes that have become less attractive. To improve branching, pinch young sprouts. The plant tolerates pruning well and begins to grow actively after it.
Fertilizer
In spring and summer, apply complex mineral fertilizers for decorative leafy plants every two weeks. Parthenocissus slows down all processes in winter, so feeding it during the cold is unnecessary.
Sunlight
Sugar vine needs diffused sunlight. Place your greenie next to east- and west-facing windows.
Soil
For Sugar vine, ready-made universal soil with neutral acidity is the best choice. You may add some sand and pieces of coal to the soil. You can also prepare the growing medium yourself by mixing leafy, turf soil, peat, and sand in a ratio of 1:1:1:0.5.
Propagation
Since Sugar vine is fast growing, it is very easy to propagate. You can propagate your plant by cuttings, dividing a bush, or germinating it from seeds.
Temperature
Sugar vine is a thermophilic plant. It enjoys temperatures in the range of 65-77°F (18-25°C) in the summer. The temperature should remain at around 65°F (18°C) in the autumn-winter period. Ensure the room is not colder than 50°F (10°C) degrees, and protect your green pet from drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Container
Since Parthenocissus stricta is a vine, you should grow it in a hanging pot. We recommend a ceramic, well-breathing vessel that allows air and moisture to pass through.
Fun fact
When grown at home, Parthenocissus stricta blossoms exceptionally rarely. If your Sugar vine produces some flowers, you can be sure you have a green thumb!
