Plant lovers cultivate Alocasia sanderiana only as decorative leafy plants because when grown at home, it blooms exceptionally rarely. It is unpretentious in care; this is why it can often be found both in offices and apartments.
Alocasia sanderiana (the kris plant) is endemic to Northern Mindanao in the Philippines. It comes from the Araceae family. The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies it as critically endangered.
During the growing season, it is necessary to water abundantly and only after the top layer of the soil mixture has dried. In the cold season, this should be done 1-2 days after its surface has dried.
These plants need a large amount of bright but diffused light, as green-leaved plants can grow in slight shade. Burning direct rays of the sun can be harmful.
During the growing season, feed the flower once in 15 days; for this, apply complex mineral fertilizers for decorative leafy plants and organic matter alternately.
Prepare a soil mixture, taking two parts of coniferous, leafy, and peat soil and one more part of sand. Pour a handful of charcoal into the prepared substrate.
This procedure is practically not required. The only pruning that can be carried out is the so-called cleansing, used to remove dried parts of the plant.
Here is what the temperature regime should be like: in the spring-summer period - from 73 to 77 ºF (23 to 25 ºС), in the winter months - about 68 ºF (20 ºС), but not less than 64 ºF (18 ºС).
The pot should be high, and a thick layer of drainage must be made at its bottom, for the creation of which you can use pebbles, expanded clay, or pieces of brick.
