Although most homeowners concentrate their abilities on trying to remove spurges from the landscape, some value the petty spurge (Euphorbia peplus) for its ability to grow in moist, shady or tight spaces, filling in where other plants may be difficult to grow. Petty spurge is a self-seeding annual that grows between 6 and 18 inches tall. It features branching stems, green ovate leaves and small yellow flowers that bloom throughout the year. Like all spurges, the broken stems of petty spurge exude a milky sap that can irritate skin and eyes

How to Care for the Plant
Water
Give the spurge at least 1 inch of water per week to keep the soil evenly moist. Do not allow the soil to become waterlogged, but do not let it dry out. Water at the base of the plants rather than from overhead to keep the leaves dry; petty spurge is susceptible to powdery mildew.
Sunlight
Choose a location with partial shade
Soil
Choose a location with well-draining soil. Petty spurge spreads easily, so plant away from areas you don't want the spurge to grow.
Temperature
Seeds germinate at temperatures of 60 degrees Fahrenheit and above.
Additional
The latex causes irritation of the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Due to the toxicity of the latex, it is advised to use the plant topically only.Lactating goats, which fed on the aerial parts of this plant mixed with their usual green fodder, showed symptoms of general poisoning. The main toxic effects were seen in the heart, lung and liver. The milk of these goats, when consumed by their offspring, caused poisoning and even death, with signs similar to those observed in the adults. The toxicity is caused by ingenane type diterpenes
