Ananas comosus is a common tropical plant that is not only beautiful but can bear tasty fruit. In the past, the pineapple was only grown in South and Central America (mainly in Brazil). Now, this exotic greenie is cultivated worldwide. However, growing this herb (yes, it's not really a tree!) and ensuring it produces fruit is not an easy task, so make sure to follow our tips.
Pineapple Plant Care
Ananas comosus

In the past, the pineapple plant was only grown in South and Central America (mainly in Brazil). Now, this exotic greenie is cultivated worldwide. Ananas comosus is a herbaceous plant that is tall, 17-23 inches (45-60 cm), and about the same width. The leaves are narrow and long. The weight of ripe fruit can be from 2 to 8 pounds (1 to 3 kg) on average, but there are also larger specimens.

How to Care for the Plant
Water
We recommend watering Ananas comosus with purified or boiled water. You can also add some citric acid to the water. Irrigate your lush beauty as soon as the topsoil dries out.
Pruning
Ananas comosus does not need special pruning. You can remove dried or rotting parts of the plant. You can also pick the ripened fruit by hand.
Fertilizer
The pineapple plant needs additional nitrogen, magnesium, and phosphorus. It is especially essential for young specimens. It would help if you used a mixture containing these elements about every 6-8 weeks from early March to mid-summer.
Sunlight
The pineapple plant is a very photophilous plant. It is better to place it on the southern or eastern windows. The plant tolerates heat and sun well. However, it needs to be sprayed with water.
Soil
Pineapple grows well in a loose and slightly acidic growing mix. You can use palm substrate or sandy soil. Make sure to put good drainage at the bottom of the container, such as expanded clay.
Propagation
The Ananas herb propagates in four ways: by seeds, side sprouts, root division, and with the help of an apical rosette. The easiest way to propagate the plant is through the rosette. You need to cut off the top of the fruit, removing all the pulp from it. Next, place it in warm water. We recommend changing the water every two days. After the roots appear, you need to plant the pineapple plant on the substrate.
Temperature
This heat-loving herb will thrive in temperatures above 59°F (+15°C). Your green pet can tolerate heat well, but if the air temperature exceeds 78°А (26°Celsius), we recommend spraying it with water. Lastly, keep your pineapple friend away from drafts and heaters.
Container
Pineapple's root system is not too big. Therefore, you do not need an enormous container. However, remember the vessel must have a drainage hole. A pot that will give the plant access to air would be perfect.
Fun fact
The pineapple plant's fruit is actually not one but many connected fruits.
